What did you have to “Break (your) fast” today …? Yes, the first meal of the day. The meal that everyone knows is the most important meal.
What prompts me to ask this question today is what I noticed during my early morning shopping at a Safeway store just yesterday. See every morning (90% anyway) I walk, and often get my bits and pieces of fruit and veg, some groceries etc.
“While adults need to eat breakfast each day to perform their best, kids need it even more. Their growing bodies and developing brains need regular refueling often, from food. When kids skip breakfast, they don’t get what they need to be at their best.” – exert WebMD
While I was waiting to pay for my food, I noticed a well dressed woman with two young sons purchase two packets of corn chips … the boys had a pack each. I said to the ‘check-out’ lady “you do hope that isn’t their breakfast don’t you?”

What do you mean “Step Out”?
One participant from one of Australian Weightloss’s last challenges is heading to Europe for a great adventure around October this year, and has set her goal to lose over 25kgs before she departs. She is on-track and is about to register in her second weightloss challenge so she stays on-track!
Why is this SO IMPORTANT to her? Because she want to enjoy her trip to the fullest, and be able to walk wherever she wants to, and be the person at the front of the group showing the way; not the one at the back having to be given a hand. At age 72 years she is still very young at heart, and sadly lost her husband and best friend a couple of years back so she has been adjusting to a new way of life.
The support from the community weightloss challenge is great and … so much different to a lot of other activities she is invited to.
Many of the social activities she has been going to involve FOOD!
Last week she went to five lunches with friends, and thank goodness she is able to apply a lot of what she has learnt at the last challenge, to ensure she makes healthy choices and avoids the “killer” foods.

How I Gained 41 years … And How You Can Too!
Last night I had a full body scan done. Ever heard of them?
It tells you just about everything you can think of that is about your body … your height and your weight you usually know but these get ‘plugged in’ to the machine I was standing on. Then I waited a few seconds while a tiny electric current passes around my body, I just love TECHNOLOGY and how easily and quickly it does it’s job.
Then I’m told to “step off the machine” and the operator starts recording MY RESULTS, including my METABOLIC AGE, or how old my body appears to be.
Aging and health care are certainly two of the BIGGEST concerns to individuals and governments alike.
Individuals generally want to stay feeling as young as they can, for as long as they can and governments are having to find more and more money for aged care and hospitals. Part of the problem is that the majority of people simply don’t know how to stay healthy and vital.
If they actually knew HOW SIMPLY IT ACTUALLY IS they would scream!

Can You Cure Mental Disease With Sugar?
I think you know the obvious answer … NO you can’t. So when our diets are heavily laden with sugar, especially refined sugar and we have a rapid increase in many preventable diseases (including depression) I feel we would get much better “bang for our investment buck” by studying the causes rather than focusing on the symptoms.
A little over ten years ago I ran into the former Victorian Premier Mr Jeff Kennett at a petrol station. He had just paid his account and picked up a ‘slab’ (slang for two dozen cans) of Diet Coke, put it onto his shoulder and walked towards his car.
He turned around and our eyes met … so I walked towards him and introduced myself as a health and lifestyle coach. I asked Mr Kennett if he had purchased the Diet Coke for him, and if so was he hoping it would help control his weight.
He replied “Yes and yes.”
I mentioned that there are medical reports (freely available) disclosing health concerns about the drink and that those reports evidently showed that when the participants of the study stopped drinking the Diet Coke they actually lost weight. Mr Kennett then said “Would I be better off drinking the normal Coke?”
Mmmm … I said that water was a much better choice and he put the slab of diet cola in the boot of his car and we said good bye.
I remember this event so clearly because shortly after our chance meeting Mr Kennett announced he had founded an organisation to help manage depression … called Beyond Blue. Like many of us Mr Kennett was also dealing with relationship challenges, and at one point I believe a marital separation, something few people have been given the tools to deal powerfully with. Without adequate tools often eating, drinking or something worse comes into play.

Is Sugar Poisoning You?
Everyone knows someone with Type 2 diabetes … but I will bet you they don’t know the effects, like kidney failure, blindness and amputation of your limbs.
Why do I say that? Because we keep eating the same foods and consuming the drinks that are laden with sugar, like eight to ten teaspoons of sugar in one can. It is so well disguised … and apparently it’s addictive.
And it can be a challenge, because often the foods can look and sound healthy, “muesli bars”, “flavored yogurt”, “fruit juices” … WOW!
How much sugar do you consume each day?
Is it ten teaspoons (one can of soda or two glasses of fruit juice) or more?
